GET TO KNOW KEN

If you could give yourself a new title, what would it be?
Chief Handyman (I love fixing things – could be a business-related challenge, a physical something that is broken or needs to be built, or a complex thing to understand that needs to be debated)

What is your favorite part of your job?
That Mike actually pays me to have fun at work; this work stuff feels like playtime. I love it! I so enjoy being part of building and growing something big; I’d like to think that while I do the “business” of Dairyland, I am positively impacting the lives of our employees, customers, partners, and those we serve compassionately.

Which is your favorite Dairyland cow?
The cowboy cow. Growing up, I always wanted to be a cowboy. I’ve always respected the hardworking lifestyle and rigidness of a true cowboy.

When not working, what can we find you doing?
Working, but on a handyman DIY project. I love working; it’s my release. Seriously. I also enjoy golf and riding on my Harley Fatboy.

What are you passionate about?
Doing what you enjoy and doing it well. Life is too short to waste and if it’s worth doing, even life, it’s worth doing well. Set your heart and mind to it and be proud of your accomplishment. Also, I’m kind of crazy about the Green Bay Packers and Harley Davidsons.

How do you Live Engaged?
To me, living engaged means recognizing that this thing called life is not about me. I have been entrusted with resources (time, money, a life) that I need to steward well, in increasing measure. Currently, while doing what I feel compelled to do to help those with less, living engaged is striking closer to home as I am learning to be more present and actively involved with my teenage and young adult children. I love my family dearly, but at times the way I spend my time does not appear to reflect this. As a father soon to have all adult children, I am challenged to be a more intentional father and husband as I wrap up this phase of parenting.

How/where do you volunteer?
The most consistent place for me to volunteer is at/for whatever church I’m attending. Over the years I have facilitated small groups of people that are interested in discovering how we can better live our lives in a manner that is pleasing to God…focused on loving and serving Him and others more than we do ourselves. In my case, it’s a long journey of which I have many more miles to travel.

I have also enjoyed volunteering at a number of local Habitat for Humanity builds. Volunteering in this manner allows me to use my handyman skills to help those in need. Lots of fun.

Favorite tv show: Old show: Seinfeld. New show: Survivor

Favorite book: Where the Red Fern Grows – read it when it when I was a boy and it warms my soul whenever I think about it.

Favorite place you’ve traveled: Hawaii, Austria or Italy – all too close to call because they all offered me something different: respectively…beautiful sandy beaches (and a very happy wife and kids), awesome skiing in the Alps, adventure and awe for history/time
