Stray Voltage Mitigation

Problem

In a farm setting, your power utility may want to bond their grounded primary neutral to your secondary neutral for safety. However, stray voltage from this bonding can affect dairy cattle and other livestock and is generally seen as a nuisance that should be prevented.

Solution

The Dairyland Variable Threshold Neutral Isolator (VTNI) isolates these two neutrals, blocks AC and DC current, and effectively prevents stray voltage from affecting livestock. Isolation is total under normal conditions, but if the voltage rises on either system due to lightning or an AC fault, the device instantly reconnects and allows grounding. The VTNI reverts back to the blocking mode when the event is over. Dairyland’s VTNI meets requirements for an isolation product (NESC 97D2).
