Decoupling From Utility Grounding Systems

Your CP system may be trying to protect your utility’s ground rods, greatly increasing demand for DC current and ultimately decreasing cathodic protection to unacceptable levels. This happens if your site’s grounding system is tied to the utility’s grounding system, bonding the two, forcing your CP system to try to protect the power company grounding system as well.

Your power company can install a Dairyland PCR at the transformer, providing DC isolation and AC grounding between the two systems thereby isolating your CP system from the power utility grounding system. This will minimize the CP current requirements for your site allowing acceptable CP voltage for protection.
